As I write this morning there is definitely an uncertainty in the air. Our capital is surrounded by more troops than ever in the history of our country. There are more troops in our Capital City than are scattered throughout the world. That can be a little unsettling. What does our future hold? What will our country look like in the next days, months and years?
This morning I read 1 Chronicles 14. In this chapter, the Philistines have come after David. They had made a raid over one of the cities and taken it over. This is the part I love. David asked God what to do. "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?" vs.10 God told David to move forward and David defeated the Philistines. But, they came back again. So instead of David assuming that he should just keep doing as he had done before, David went to God again and asked. God told him to move forward and attack, but this time the strategy would be completely different. God told David to circle around and wait until he heard the sound in the mulberry trees. Same result. Different strategy. It also strikes me that this strategy required some waiting. Timing is important, too.
This is what I love about this story. David just went to God and asked. Every time!! And each time, God told him specifically what to do to win the battle. Yes, we don't know what the future holds. It is very uncertain. What we do know is that when the time comes we can simply ask. Not only will God tell us what to do, but He will also tell us HOW to do it. The method won't look the same as before, but with God's plan the enemy is defeated. "So David did as God commanded him." vs.16
I think one of the reasons we worry and fear is because we try to predict the future. We don't know what to do because it isn't time yet. When the time comes is when God will tell us. Not before. This is where trust comes in. Do we really trust Him with our future? I guess we better. That is all we have.
I love you and I am grateful to have you beside me as we make this journey. Together we can seek God and do as He commands us. And we can win!
