It's the Little Things

In our Bible Study at the PARC we have been reading in 1 Kings about Solomon and the building of the temple. One of the things that I have been pondering is about all the detail and expense that went into those things that were unseen. In our group Paul talked about when they were gathering materials how much work was put into gathering the stones and how hard it is to prepare them for building. When the temple was being built, those stones were carefully laid and then covered with cedar. What was not even seen was still so very important.

It has brought to our attention how important the details are for our own personal lives in those areas that are unseen. Every day we take what we read and then each person makes an application to their life. Derik used as his application that he needs to work on his own temple, build his character. We all agreed that we, too would make that same application.

How close of attention do we pay to the things that people don't see? Do we give our best? Do we pay attention to detail? How do we act when no one is watching? My dad is a wonderful example of that to me. I remember getting up sometimes in the night as a little girl and he would be at the kitchen table reading his Bible. He believed strongly that acts of service and kindness should be done when no one was watching. After he died my sister told me a story about how he had saved some money and wanted to buy some food for the pantry at church. My sister followed him through the store and added up each purchase until they had spent the money he had saved. He then made her promise she would not tell ANYONE! It sounds just like him. That is how he lived his life. He paid attention to the details and gave his best when no one was watching.

We have talked about practical ways we can work on our own temples, where Christ dwells today. I want to do that. I want to give my best to those things that no one sees. "So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for this affects all that you are. Pay attention to the welfare of your being, for from there flows the wellspring of life." Prov. 4:2 (TPT)
