Why We Do What We Do

“The PARC helps me know that deep down inside, I have talent.”
— Member at the PARC

One of our members was trying desperately to stay sober. There were multiple occasions when we would have to ask her to leave because she was high. This sometimes lead to angry outbursts and fits of rage. Then, a day or two later she would come back. At the PARC, she will never run out of chances. Over and over, she kept trying. Some days she would say over and over, “stay, stay, stay”. She knew if she could stay at the PARC that would mean one more day of sobriety. As time went on she was able to spend more time at the PARC, more time building relationships, and more days sober. We watched her fight and struggle and work towards recovery and reconciliation. We encouraged her while she reconciled with her daughter. We rejoiced with her when she got a job. There was a huge celebration when she got a car and then her own apartment. Our friend is now a manager at her job, drives her own vehicle, and is even considering moving from her apartment to buying her own home. With all this success, she still stops by the PARC to say ‘hi’ and encourage our current members to keep trying. The relationships that happen at the PARC, and the friendships that are made last a lifetime. Relationship changes everything.
